Jeff Goldblum’s new series Raines gets a season premiere date

Thursday, January 18th, 2007 on SpoilerBuzz.com

Raines finally has a season premiere date! NBC has announced that Raines will take over ER’s timeslot for two weeks starting Thursday March 15th at 10pm, with the second episode of the series airing the following week at the same time. However, ER fans have no fear. ER will be back at its usual time the following week, while Raines will move to its regular time slot of Fridays at 9pm starting on March 30th.

Emmy Award-winning writer-producer Graham Yost (”From Earth to the Moon,” “Band of Brothers,” “Boomtown”) and star Jeff Goldblum (”The Lost World: Jurassic Park,” “Independence Day,” “The Fly”) combine creative forces in the inventive police-drama that blends traditional noir storytelling with humor and intrigue.

Eccentric LAPD Detective Michael Raines (Goldblum) has a unique ability — his imagination is so keen that when he’s on a murder case, the murder victims actually take shape in front of him. At first he thinks he’s losing his mind, but he finds that talking to these constantly evolving hallucinations (they’re figments of his imagination, not ghosts) helps him discover their killers.

Also prominent in Raines’ life are: his understanding boss, Captain Daniel Lewis (Matt Craven, “From the Earth to the Moon”); an antagonistic uniformed officer, Remi Boyer (Dov Davidoff, “Third Watch”); Boyer’s long-suffering partner, Officer Michelle Lance (Linda Park, “Star Trek: Enterprise”); sharp-tongued civilian employee, Carolyn Crumley (Nicole Sullivan, “MadTV”); his former partner, Charlie Lincoln (Malik Yoba, “Thief”), and therapist Samantha Kohl, (Madeleine Stowe, “The Last of the Mohicans,” “We Were Soldiers”).

While the premise of the series is more of a been-there-done-that plot, it will be interesting to see if the creative team and star Jeff Goldblum can pull it off. And with ER’s timeslot, it could have a good chance at picking up some decent ratings by those who tune in expecting ER ;)

It is also worth noting that NBC cut the original series order from 13 to 7 episodes and shut down production on the show immediately following that announcement in December. So don’t expect this show to be around after the initial 7, unless it somehow manages to become a runaway hit.

NBC shuts down production on Raines with Jeff Goldblum

Tuesday, December 26th, 2006 on SpoilerBuzz.com

Raines, starring Jeff Goldblum, was supposed to be a mid-season replacement series, scheduled to air its 13 episode run on Friday nights starting in March. But NBC has shut down production on the show, cutting back its episode order from the original 13 to 7. The show stars Jeff Goldblum as a cop in L.A. who can see dead people… kind of like Medium, but with credentials ;)

NBC still has plans to air the series in March on Friday nights, but just as a shorter series.

Malik Yoba joins NBC mid-season entry Raines

Monday, October 9th, 2006 on SpoilerBuzz.com

Malik Yoba has signed on to Raines, led by Jeff Goldblum, which will be appearing on NBC Sundays after the football season (finally) ends. The series, a paranormal crime drama which features Goldblum as Raines, an LAPD cop who can have conversations with dead crime victims to get details about their murders in order to solve them. As you can guess, his method of “investigation” causes rifts with his boss and fellow cops. Predictable outcome on an unusual cop drama premise.

Raines also stars Matt Craven, Dov Davidoff, Sally Lance, Nicole Sullivan and Luis Guzman.
Behind the scenes are writer-producer Graham Yost and director-writer-producer Frank Darabont.

No official launch yet, but it is scheduled for the 10pm Sunday slot sometime after football.
